PGC is REQUIRED by the Archdiocese of Boston for ALL volunteers & coaches. The next workshop will be held at  St Pius on Thursday January 12th, 2012 from 6:30PM – 9:00PM at the Pastoral Center. You only have to attend this only once. If you have taken this workshop already there is NO need to take it again.

If you are currently working with children in the Intramural and Travel divisions you MUST attend. Otherwise you will not be allowed on the court after Jan. 12th for intramural or Travel

 

Email

Email will be the primary way CYO Basketball will communicate  with our 200+ players. In the event of any cancellations or schedule changes we will be using email to communicate with you.

If you have registered for the upcoming season,  you should have gotten an Email from us thanking you for registering. If   you have not received any emails from CYO it could be that we could not read your writing ,we mistyped it or you changed your address without telling us.  Go to the CONTACT tab and send us the name of your child along with your email address so we can update our records.

How old does my child have to be to play intramural ?

Your child must be 6 by Dec 31st

What grades participate in the Intramural Program ?

Players in Grades 1 – 8 are eligible to participate.

What are the different divisions and age requirements in Travel ?

Junior – under 17 as of January 1 of the current school year. Not graduated from high school.

Cadet – under 15 as of January 1 of the current school year. Not completed 8th grade.

Bantam – under 13 as of January 1 of the current school year. Not completed 6th grade.

What is the difference between Travel & Intramural?

The Travel division is a competitive league.
Teams travel through out the North Shore playing other parish teams.

Teams practice at least once a week and have games on weekends (Days and Times vary from week to week).

New players are assumed to have basic skills and a fundamental knowledge of the game.

Intramural plays on Sundays only and have no practices during the week.

Intramural is a good league for players to develop their skills and confidence in a relaxed atmosphere.

When are Intramural games played ?

Intramural games are usually played on Sunday between 12:00 – 6:00 PM. The season runs from December thru the First week of February

When are Travel games played?

Travel games are are usually played on Saturday & Sundays at different times.

There are 1 or 2 games that are played during the week (Medford games for example) .

How many Travel games are played ?

The season usually consists of 14 games. (7 Home & 7 Away)

Do Travel players get equal playing time ?

No. Playing time is earned through practice and commitment to the team.

Coaches make every attempt to give each player playing time as warranted by the game.

How many Intramural games are played ?

The season runs about 8 weeks.

Where are Travel games played ?

Travel home games are played at Breed Jr High. Away games are played all through the North Shore.

Where are Intramural Games Played ?

Games are played at Breed Jr High

I do not live with in the St Pius Boundaries can I still play Travel Basketball ?

A participant will compete only for that parish in which the participant actually resides (defined as territorial).

Exceptions to this are:

1. Non Territorial Parishioner (NTP)
If any youth does not reside geographically within a parish boundary, BUT WHOSE FAMILY IS A REGISTERED PARISHIONER AND IS ACTIVE IN THAT CHURCH, he/she may play ONLY if the priest of the parish for which he/she is going to play fills out the NTP form and submits it with the roster.

It is then subject to the approval of the Area Coordinator.

2. Multi-Parish Teams
When a parish does not sponsor a team due to an insufficient number of players that parish may join with a bordering parish and petition the Area Coordinator and Area Board for authorization to participate in CYO athletic competition.

St Joseph’s & St Pius have an agreement that allows players with in St Joseph’s parish to play for St Pius

I do not live with in the St Pius Boundaries can I still play Intramural Basketball ?

Yes

I am not a Catholic, can I still play Travel for St Pius ?

Non catholic players must reside geographically within the boundaries of the parish he/she wishes to play for.

I am not a Catholic, can I still play Intramural for St Pius ?

Yes

How much does it cost to register?

$60 for Intramural + $15 Shirt (unless you have one from last year)
$100 for Travel + $37 Uniform

My child changed his mind and does not want to play, can I get a refund ?

You can get a refund Minus $10 if you withdraw before the start of the first game .

If my child does not make the travel team can they play intramural ?

Yes, your child will be able to play intramural, You will be refunded the difference between Travel and Intramural fees
